Understanding Wallet Setup

CryptoGate uses extended public keys (XPubs) to generate unique payment addresses for each transaction. This ensures maximum privacy and security for you and your customers.

What Are Extended Public Keys (XPubs)?

Extended public keys (XPubs, YPubs, ZPubs) allow CryptoGate to generate unlimited unique deposit addresses without ever having access to your private keys or funds.

Security Benefits

  • Non-custodial: CryptoGate never holds your funds
  • Private keys stay with you: We only see public addresses
  • Unique addresses: Each transaction gets a new address
  • Privacy-focused: Customers can't see your total balance

Never Share Private Keys!

Only provide extended PUBLIC keys (XPubs). Never share private keys, seed phrases, or wallet passwords with anyone, including CryptoGate support.

Security Best Practices

Security Checklist

  • Use hardware wallets: Ledger or Trezor for maximum security
  • Never share private keys: Only provide XPubs to CryptoGate
  • Backup your wallet: Store seed phrases securely offline
  • Test with small amounts: Verify configuration before going live
  • Monitor incoming payments: Regularly check your wallet balance
  • Use separate wallets: Different wallets for testing vs production

Hardware Wallets Recommended

For business use, we strongly recommend hardware wallets (Ledger, Trezor) which keep your private keys offline and protected from malware.
